Bing Crosby, Carmella Bing or Bing cherry?
In my search for “add url to Bing” one of the first things that came up where Bing Crosby and Carmella Bing. This made me wonder where the name Bing came from. Perhaps some programmer at Microsoft was thinking of one of the two Bing’s and a widely cultivated large sweet cherry having glossy dark red skin and firm juicy flesh and came up with “Bing cherry“. It is a pity he forgot to implement “add url to Bing” after searching for images of Carmella Bing. Microsoft indicated that the name Bing “was memorable, short, easy to spell, and that would function well as a URL around the world” and reminded people of the sound made during “the moment of discovery and decision making.” but we know better….
