World’s largest superconducting magnet
In Geneve you can find the ATLAS Barrel Toroid consisting of eight superconducting coils, each in the shape of a round-cornered rectangle, 5m wide, 25m long and weighing 100 tonnes, all aligned to millimetre precision. I really was picturing this kind of things in my mind in 1980 as some thing far in the future. Now it is here. It is so good to be in the future. I always wanted to go to Geneve. I will try to get to see this when I do. More
